Hebrews 3:1
"Therefore, Holy brethren, partakers
of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High
Priest
of our confession, Jesus Christ."
Jesus
is both the
APOSTLE
&
HIGH PRIEST
of our confession
'confession' Greek
'homologia'
meaning to speak the
same word,
to declare openly a
confession based
upon a deep conviction
of facts'
What is our confession of Jesus
as
High Priest?
He offered the perfect
sacrifice
"Not with the blood of goats and calves,
but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place
once for all, having obtained eternal redemption." Hebrews 9:12
"Not that He should offer Himself often,
as the high priest enters the Most Holy Place every
year with blood of another - He then would have had
to suffer often since the foundation of the world; but
now, once at the end of the ages, He has appeared to
put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself." Hebrews 9:25-26
He makes intercession
for us
"Therefore He is also able to save to
the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since
He always lives to make intercession for them." Hebrews 7:25
"This hope we have as an anchor of the
soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the
Presence behind the veil, where the forerunner has entered
for us, even Jesus, having become High Priest forever
according to the order of Melchizedek." Hebrews 6:19-20
"For we do not have a High Priest who
cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all
points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore
come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain
mercy and find grace to help in time of need" Hebrews 4:15-16
"It is Christ who died, and furthermore
is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God,
who also makes intercession for us" Romans 8:34
He is in heaven
"Seeing then that we have a great High
Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the
Son of God, let us hold fast our confession." Hebrews 4:14
"For Christ has not entered the holy places
made with hands, which are copies of the true, but into
heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God
for us." Heb.9:24
"Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher
of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him
endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat
down at the right hand of the throne of God"
Hebrews 12:2
The ministry of Jesus
as High Priest
is now in heaven
What is our confession of Jesus
as
Apostle?
He was sent with a
purpose
"And I also say to you that you are Peter,
and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates
of Hades shall not prevail against it." Matthew 16:18
He is building a house
for God
"For this One has been counted worthy
of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as He who built the
house has more honour than the house ... but Christ
as a Son over His own house whose house we are ..."
Hebrews
3:3&6
He trained up men whom
He would entrust with the task of building
"I have glorified You on the earth. I
have finished the work which You have given Me to do." John 17:4 - that
work was to train up twelve apostles.
"As You sent Me into the world, I also
have sent them into the world." Jn.17:18
He gave the five-fold
gift ...
"And He Himself gave some to be apostles,
some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and teachers"
Eph.4:11
... for a specific
purpose
"for the equipping [or perfecting] of
the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying
[or building up] of the body of Christ." Eph.4:12
He is the foundation
& the cornerstone
"For no other foundation can anyone lay
than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.." 1Cor.3:11
"Having
been built on the foundations of the apostles and prophets,
Jesus Himself being the chief cornerstone." Eph.2:20
The building is fitted
together in Him
"In whom the whole building, being fitted
together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord." Eph.2:21
He is building us together
to be His dwelling place
"In whom you also are being built together
for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit." Eph.2:22
The ministry of Jesus
as Apostle
continues in the earth
Let us begin to confess
and receive Jesus as both
High Priest
&
Apostle
so that the work He
came to do can
be fully outworked
in our individual lives
and
corporately as His
Body
so that
His church will be
built
